Welcome Our New CEO, Angus Norton

A letter from Angus Norton, Chief Executive Officer
May 2026   |   Kirkland, Washington

To our customers, partners, and friends of Inteum,

It is the privilege of my career to step into the role of Chief Executive Officer of Inteum. I am humbled and excited to have been given this opportunity, and I am genuinely grateful to the leadership and customers who have welcomed me so warmly in my first month.

Above all, I want to thank Rob Sloman. Rob spent more than thirty years building Inteum into the trusted partner it is today. He has been generous with his time, his counsel, and his deep history of the business as we have worked side by side through the transition. The strength of the company you know, the relationships that go back decades, and the team that takes such pride in serving you, all of it is Rob’s legacy. I am thankful for his support as I take on this responsibility, and I wish him every success in the next chapter of his life.

What the team built

Inteum today serves hundreds of technology transfer offices across our global customer base. Our customers manage some of the most consequential research in the world. Faculty inventions, federally funded discoveries, and the intellectual property that becomes tomorrow’s medicines, materials, and methods. Minuet and our earlier solutions have been the system of record for that work for more than three decades.

Customers stay with us for many years and many renewals, often spanning entire careers. What makes that possible is the team.

Long-tenure people, many a decade or more into the work, across engineering, customer support, account management, implementation, and marketing. The engineers and architects who quietly keep the platform reliable, year after year. The support specialists who pick up the phone when you need them. The account managers who know your office, your priorities, and your history. The implementation team that guides you through migration and makes the system feel like yours. The marketers who tell our story to the technology transfer community. They are the front line, and they are who you will continue to rely on.

That kind of trust is not built by accident. It is built day by day, customer by customer, by people who care. Rob built and led that team. It is what we will protect and grow.

Our owner, Merit Holdings

Inteum is now owned by Merit Holdings. Many of our customers have asked me what that means for the company and for them. I want to address it directly.

Merit Holdings is not a private equity firm. They are a long-term software holding company. They do not buy companies to sell them in three or five years. They buy companies to own them for the long term, support them well, and let them grow at the right pace.

For a company like Inteum, where the work compounds over decades and the customer relationships span careers, this kind of ownership is the right kind. It means we can plan in years rather than quarters. It means we can invest in the parts of the product that take time to mature. It means our customers can count on us to be here when they need us, in ten years and in twenty.

John Burke, the founder and chief executive of Merit, and his team have been clear from the beginning. They want Inteum to be the best version of itself for our customers. They want us to invest in the team, in the product, and in the experience our customers have every day. That is the mandate I have accepted, and it is the mandate we will deliver against.

What I am hearing from customers

In my first thirty days, I have spoken with technology transfer leaders across our global customer base. The themes are consistent. Loyalty to Inteum runs deep. The product sits at the center of how a TTO operates, and customers value the trust built over decades.

There is also a clear and welcome appetite for us to do more. To make the everyday experience of using Minuet feel as good as the platform that sits underneath. To invest in the partnership between our team and yours. To bring you a thoughtful point of view on the technologies, including AI, that are reshaping the work of technology transfer.

I have heard you. We are going to invest in all these things, and we are going to do it carefully, in the order that creates the most value for you.

What stays the same, and what gets better

What stays the same is the foundation. Minuet remains the trusted system of record for your work. The team you know remains the team you know. The relationships and the support you have come to rely on are not changing. We will continue to honor the long contracts, the careful integrations, and the patient work of being a system that customers depend on every day.

Above all, what stays the same is our commitment to the security and stewardship of your data. The work that lives inside Minuet is sensitive. Pre-publication research, inventor disclosures, confidential agreements, and the financial flows tied to all of it.

As AI changes the work of technology transfer, that responsibility becomes more important, not less. We will continue to invest in the security posture our customers expect today, and in the higher standards that GovRAMP and FedRAMP define for the institutions that need them. Your data is your data. We treat it that way.

What gets better is everything we build on top of that foundation. A more intuitive user experience that respects the depth of the platform underneath. A clearer cadence of communication so you always know what is coming next. Closer partnership between Inteum and FirstIgnite, two companies under shared ownership now working as one team to serve our customers better. And we will lean carefully into the opportunities that AI creates for technology transfer offices, in a way that keeps your data safe, your trust earned, and your time respected.

None of this happens overnight. It happens one decision, one release, one conversation at a time. That is how trust is built, and that is how we intend to grow.

An invitation

If you have a thought, a request, a concern, or simply something you want me to know, please reach out. My email is angusn@inteum.com. I read every message. I am thirty days into a role that I expect to spend years in, and the only way I can do this work well is to keep listening to the people we serve.

Thank you for being part of the Inteum family. Thank you for the trust you placed in Rob over so many years, and for extending some of that trust to me as I begin. I look forward to meeting many more of you in the months ahead.

With gratitude,

Angus Norton
